What we collect when you use uShift, why, who sees it, and how to ask us to change or delete it.

Draft. This page describes how uShift works today and will be replaced by a reviewed version before launch.
Who we are
uShift is an online marketplace that connects people moving home between cities with transport companies. We are starting in Delhi NCR. We run the platform; the transport company you book carries out the move.
What we collect
Your mobile number, and your name if you give it.
For a move: the pickup and delivery addresses, the dates, the list of items, your notes and any photographs you add.
Messages you send to transporters on the platform, and the record of your booking and payments. Card and UPI details are handled by our payment provider, Razorpay; we do not see them.
For transport companies: business and identity documents (GST, PAN, vehicle RC, transit insurance), bank details for payouts, and notes and photographs from our office visit.
For drivers: the photographs and location recorded at each step of a move.
Why we use it
To collect quotes for your move, take your booking, process payments, show you each step of the journey and help settle any dispute.
Before a booking is paid, we check messages for phone numbers and email addresses, so the conversation and the booking stay on the platform. Our team may read a message that is flagged.
To keep accounts secure, prevent fraud and meet our legal duties.
Who sees what
Until you book, transporters see your locality and city, never your full address or your number, and you see them by a number rather than a name. Once your booking is paid, the transporter you chose sees your name, number and full addresses, and you see theirs.
We use service providers to run uShift: hosting (Vercel), database (Neon), file storage (Cloudflare), payments (Razorpay), text and WhatsApp messages, and error monitoring (Sentry). Some of them may process data outside India. We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account is open, and afterwards for as long as we need it to settle a dispute or meet tax and legal requirements. Records of money movements are kept for the period the law requires.
Your choices
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account. When an account is deleted we remove your personal details; records the law requires us to keep, such as payments, are kept without them.
Keeping it safe
Connections to uShift are encrypted. Only our team can open account details, and every action they take on money, disputes and accounts is recorded.
Contact
A named grievance officer, with an email address and a response time, will be published here before launch.
